Author and Publisher FAQ

Authors and Publishers

Holton House Audio is an independent contract producer of audiobooks.

We coordinate and manage audiobook productions for a wide variety of publishers, authors and other audio rights holders.

We can help bring your audiobook into wide digital distribution through Amazon, iTunes and Audible.com, the world's largest seller of audiobook downloads. Our narration and technical performances meet and beat industry standards. Our pricing is transparent and very competitive.

As recently as a year ago, 15% royalties were common -- today, they can exceed 50%! Driven by Amazon, Audible.com and iPhone downloads, the audiobook world is rapidly changing. Production costs have dropped and royalties have increased dramatically.

With lower costs and higher royalties, it takes far fewer sales to justify the investment in an audiobook project. Access to distribution channels has also changed, and it's easier than ever to make an audiobook available as a download on Audible.com, Amazon, iPhones and iTunes. Downloads to libraries through Overdrive and sales from an author's website are also part of the new distribution mix.

The audience for audiobooks is increasing every year. But even though many publishers and authors have an interest in audio, they simply don't have the staff, time or knowledge needed to manage a professionally produced audiobook. That's where we can help.

Holton House Audio can help you make an informed decision about whether or not your book is a good candidate for an audiobook. Because not all books are suitable, we'll lay out the pros and cons, and give you our candid opinion about your project. Our Pricing is transparent and based on a cost per-finished-hour.

We'll give you a clear overview of costs, what to expect in terms of royalties and how many sales are needed to break even. With Holton House there are no hidden fees, residuals or surcharges. You own the completed project. We do not take a percentage of any sales. We can offer suggestions that will help you decide which sales channels are most appropriate for your individual project.

Holton House Audio helps with the selection of talent, and then manages the audiobook project from pre-production and recording all the way through delivery of the digital files, ready for CD production, sale from an author's website or retail distribution as a digital download.
