Typical stages of Audiobook production

Pre-production and planing

At the start of each project, we outline the scope of the production. Talent is chosen and the delivery style is determined. There are always questions and concerns, and the pre-production and planning phase is where those issues are identified and resolved.

This is also the time when a working relationships are forged, and the channels of communication are defined.

It's not unusual for an audiobook to be available in both abridged and full length versions. We can help you make the decision. We can recommend independent editors to assist with abridgments and other editing if needed.

Text adaptation

Some texts contain footnotes, graphics or other elements that work within the context of print, but don't translate well to an audio performance. Often, it takes only a little effort to turn such work into a better listening experience.

Planning.

We work with each client to find the voice and delivery style most appropriate for their material. Our core group of narrators will meet most expectations, but we can also choose from a broader pool of exceptional talent.

Producing-Directing

Each recording is guided by an experienced audiobook project manager to reflect the vision and goals of each client.

State of the Art Studios

Different projects require different studios. We match the needs of each project with the most appropriate studios to meet industry standards of performance and engineering.

Music and Special Effects

A few musical effects can add a special feeling to a reading. Sometimes, just a few seconds of music can truly enhance a work. We know the value of these enhancements, but caution that excessive use can drive up the price of a production without significantly improving it. We work with our clients to strike a balance that respects the needs of the production and the budget.

Royalty-free music

Clients can choose from our excellent library of royalty-free instrumentals at a very reasonable cost.

Review and word-for-word Proofing

After all the hours of recording, editing and mixing, the entire production is listened to in its entirety to ensure a perfect text match and continuity of performance, word-for-word.

Mastering and EQ

This is the final process to ensure that a finished product meets rigorous professional and technical standards. The master audio file can used for any type of duplication, manufacturing or digital distribution.

Manufacturing

If you want CDs we can refer you to an excellent manufacturer for all aspects of duplication from artwork through pressing, packaging, bar coding and shipping. We can also help guide you through the process.

We can help place your Audiobook into digital distribution marketplaces such as Audible, Amazon, iPhones and iTunes.
